A modern religion
Time to back off monotheism.
Monotheism makes people fierce as hell, but we need to de-escalate the conflict among humans if the peasants are to have a chance at survival. Lets go back to old school polytheism. It far more accurately represents the human condition than does one omniscient, omnipotent fucker. And can we /please/ stop pretending anyone has to take this shit literally? My proposed religion is open to all no matter where you started as long as you can handle that it’s just a tribe, not actual magical thinking.
Lets rework the calendar. Make a ten month year, 5 x 36 days, 5 x 37 days. Also break the year into 36.5 ten day weeks. So we need ten gods and 36.5 demigods. I refuse to do much of this solo. I had the idea decades ago, in the Bob Dobbs era, but insisted on at least one collaborator, a woman. The world doesn’t need another patriarchy, and nobody I ever met was interested. As the originator, I beg inclusion of a trickster. I personally am chaotic neutral, morally. I resent being lumped in with orderly evil, like the nazis, by simpleminded Manichean fools. My people need an avatar. Other than that, I think we should put the mother goddess at the top again. Fat bitch with big tits. It’s always been easier to destroy than create, maybe we let the destroyers run amok for too long. Put the creators back at the top, make the soldier/war god kinda silly and very shortsighted. Hell, make him a rat. That works on a lot of levels.
Give each god a holiday, one holiday a month. I push for a potlach as the trickster’s holiday. Having just skimmed the details of a real potlach, I say we skip the destruction of wealth. Make it a jocular, lighthearted reapportionment. If we want an xmas analogue, I say only handmade stuff. No purchased presents.
Other than that, just crowdsource it. Let it grow and evolve. But never pretend it’s anything more than some bullshit an isolate came up with to while away his life. Actually…
Why is the general who wins the revolution usually the worst king to rule the peace? Because the single genius can often spot the problem, and articulate it, in a way the crowd can’t. That ability does not make us qualified to design the solution. At least, not much moreso than anyone else who has to live in it. Marx dead nailed late stage capitalism but his solution was worse than the problem. You gotta scientific method the solution. Try a bunch of stuff and see what works.
