I keep seeing references to the “constitutional right to an abortion”. IIRC, Roe v. Wade was resolved through the 4th amendment right against government search. I’m sorry, but that is clearly legislating from the bench. The supreme court had to torture the right to be free from invasive government data collection to extrapolate it to legalize elective abortion. Now don’t get me wrong—I’m 110% in favor of abortion. But it’s not a constitutional right. That is bullshit.
Let’s stop pretending the court is some kind of apolitical arbiter of reason and the law. It’s a political organ same as the other two branches of our government. Sometimes it follows popular opinion, sometimes it tries to nullify popular opinion in favor of the slave states. The court has always been willing to play fast and loose with what the constitution actually says. For example—half of our founding fathers were drug dealers. No fucking way would they create a central government with the authority to prohibit growing drugs as a cash crop. To ban recreational drugs, the supreme court had to torture the interstate commerce clause. I doubt that was following what the people wanted back then, but it shaped society and today people can’t imagine legal drug stores run by tobacco farmers and big pharma. That doesn’t make it in any way constitutional to use the force of law to prevent tobacco companies from expanding into opium and weed.
The liberal courts that gave us women’s rights, and nonwhite civil rights, and the voting act—all the stuff that’s being dismantled today—were making up some bullshit to shoehorn what society had become into a beta test constitution designed foremost to preserve slavery. Claiming otherwise just because you don’t like what the court is doing these days is delusional at best and disingenuous propaganda at worst. The problem with today’s court is that it represents the view of a small minority of our most hateful and vicious citizens, and is overruling the will of hte majority to do so. See: the way our system is weighted toward the slave states.
Anybody ever heard about the old idea, “divide and conquer”? The reason we’re /still/ sleepwalking into omnicide is that the Lords, the handful of people with all the power, figured out how to maintain that power indefinitely generations ago. As long as the Peasants (us) are fighting over bullshit that’s not real, nothing will ever get fixed. Now we’ve got both sides arguing an obviously flawed and untrue interpretation of legal reality, so it’ll be no big deal to swing the pendulum back after this round of resistance to right wing rule. As long as both sides are full of shit, nobody will ever successfully challenge the system.
The people who run things are really good at preventing any challenge to the system. Reality doesn’t get a voice. Only competing lies. The Matrix is lies, y’know. Any time you use your emotions to overrule your mind, you are choosing to believe something you know isn’t true. You are choosing to believe a lie. As long as the lies are what you value, nothing will ever improve. There is no such thing as emotional truth. That’s just a denial mechanism, and if you have somebody by the denial mechanism, their heart and mind will follow. Denial comprises 90% of the matrix.
Reality has a liberal bias. We have actual facts on our side. We don’t need to stoop to bullshit and propaganda. That’s the other side’s game, because they’ve never had anything else. If we use their tactics, we become our enemies. And the cycle starts anew. If we want to save the biosphere, humans need a new way to approach reality. I suggest thinking about it. If you need a guide, you could do a lot worse than Kurt Vonnegut. Here’s a perfect book, free online.
